Sports Leaders Awards Year 5/6 Children

The aim of the Playground Leaders Scheme is to introduce and develop leadership skills in Y5/Y6 children. As such the course the children will follow has a similar emphasis and content to the Sports Leaders UK Young Leader Award which many primary and secondary schools now offer.

The aim of Playground Leaders is to introduce and develop leadership skills in Yr 5 and 6 children by training them up and getting them to organise activities for other children in the playground. Performing Sports has also provided training for lunchtime supervisors and LSA’s to help with the organisation of this. You may also wish to contact your School Games Coordinator at your local secondary school who may also be able to support you. One of the aims of the scheme is that it will increase the amount of physical activity undertaken during playtime and reduce the amount of anti-social behaviour. It is hoped there will be a whole school impact in terms of children’s behaviour both at lunchtime and in afternoon lessons. The scheme will also hopefully raise self-esteem and self-confidence of the leaders.

On Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 of June,

The children in Years 1 to 6 took part in the St Mary’s School Sports Days.
The children had the opportunity to take part in many different activities,
from throwing a javelin to agility running and the classic egg and spoon race.
The weather was beautiful and the children had plenty of fun!
The whole day was a great success. Congratulations to all the children for
taking part and showing a great team spirit.

We look forward to the Foundation Stage Sports Day on Thursday 5 July,
please can you make sure the children wear sun screen and have hats and
water bottles.
We will post all the results for the Sports Days in our next Newsletter.
